When building a 2jz engine do you not need to apply torque angle to the main bearing caps?

Also is it necessary to set the thrust bearings with a 2jz block?

It depends what fasteners you're using. If you've swapped to a stud then you'll generally use torque rather than torque angle but this will be defined in the instructions for the fasteners. I've actually never used stock 2JZ fasteners so couldn't tell you off hand if they use torque angle but this will be in the workshop manual.

Thrust clearance needs to be checked on any engine build to confirm it's within the manufacturer's specs.
