The practical engine build course does not mention the balancing process for aluminum connecting rods. Is the process the same? My main concern is removing material from the small end of the aluminum rods like its shown in this course.
I'd be a little more inclined with alloy rods to accept a wider range of imbalance simply because removing excess material will weaken the rods. Also due to the density of alloy material, the amount of material you need to remove to make a change of 1 gram is significantly more than with a steel rod. That's not to say it can't be done but care and judgement need to be exercised. You will also want to polish the surface after any linishing to ensure there are no potential stress raisers.
