I was watching the engine coatings module and one product I see often that can have a coating is engine bearings. Considering the bearings should never make direct contact with the journals, but rather float on a thin film of oil, I am unclear what this coating is for. What does this coating do and is it a worthwhile investment?

Probably has to do with start, first engine revolutions of the engine where oil pressure hasn't been build up.

While the bearings shouldn't have any metal to metal contact, they are still prone to damage as a result of dirt and debris passing through the oil and coating the bearings can improve longevity.
