Good day,
I am currently looking at doing an engine rebuild on a BMW B48 engine (basically 4 cylinder supra).
I have viewed the engine rebuild course.
However, BMW recommends using a synthetic oil A3/B4 Spec while your course states using a mineral grade oil for the break in period.
BMW does not have any specifications for break in oil.
Could you advise if I should use a mineral grade oil 5W30 for break in even though it deviates from the manufacturer specifications?
I am a bit concerned if any other parts may require fully synthetic oil.
Thank you.
Regards,
Shane
Hi Shane, it's not usual for a manufacturer to specify a break-in oil as this isn't really something the end user would typically be doing. While yes, a full synthetic would definitely be my recommendation once the break in is complete, I'd still use a good quality mineral based oil for the break in process.
Hi Andre,
Thanks, I am planning to use mineral grade for break in and then switch to synthetic.
Regards,
Shane
