I’m fitting some LED light bars on to a rally car. We’ve got a 22” bar that the spec is listed as 60x 20W LED’s, 1200W total. Based upon 12v supply, to me that’s 100A but what I can’t get my head around is that there are just 2x 22AWG wires, red and black for the supply. This doesn’t make sense to me, I would expect much heavier gauge wires. Can anyone explain what I’m missing?

My guess would be the LEDs are the equivalent of a 20 watt incandescent bulb, but don't actually draw 1.6A each, probably only 100mA each, so 6A total which a 22 ga wire could handle.

Thanks David, I had considered that. I’ll have to measure the current to confirm.

I've done PDMs on some rally cars with these and they're super efficient. As David mentioned the supplied wiring should be fine, but fuse accordingly if you don't have a PDM.

Thanks Mike
