Discussion and questions related to the course Practical Motorsport Wiring - Club Level
I ve got a Winch Motor on an offroad buggy which it specs are. 6000rpm /8.0hp /No Load amps : 52A / 12V. When on load dont know its current draw. How can i find this to determine best wire gauge for it. Thanks.
Well 8HP is 6kw, which according to this calculator
would require 500A at 12V. So the answer is BIG! You probably want to run the largest wire you can find (consider 2/0 or 3/0). I would consider locating the battery close to the winch if you expect to use it much.
Thanks in fact I was thinking of using 75mm2 wire for it.. Got NO Place to move the batteries nearer.
75 mm2 is a good choice.
Thanks David..
