Converting a Mesh (.OBJ) file to a solid

Hi ALL,

I am having troubles converting an OBJ (mesh file) to a solid in order to edit the base model. I have the full copy of fusion 360. and I have followed what I would of done in the past. I do however have a new 3d scanner. not sure if there is a problem arising form the scanning process? I don't image it would be however.

I can insert the mesh file which looks good! I have then done the "Generate face groups", then go to "Convert mesh"

then when I do that the system just does nothing - I even left it processing for more then 18 hours and still nothing. Not sure what is happening. Can anyone help - I am happy to send file through if anyone wants to try for them self. However i really want to know what i am doing incorrect - PLEASE HELP

I managed to convert it, but my computer wasn't happy about it. I can't even attach it since the file is so big.

Try simplifying the mesh using the "reduce tool" or i'd even just remodel it with some extrudes to make a nice parametric model you can work with.

If you have a new 3D scanner, and the issue started then, there may be an option for how many points, or resolution, the scanner is defaulting to - if it has a high de-fault, or it has been accidentally selected, that could be part of the problem?

If it's giving too much data for the PC to process with the hardware it has, it may be doing a great deal of swapping between the RAM and the hard-drive.

You should be able to identify a bottleneck, if it exists, using task manager and/or "CPUID HWMonitor", a free utility which I find useful for monitoring CPU, RAM, GPU, temp's, and other usage.
