Discussion and questions related to the course Professional Motorsport Data Analysis
Trying to generate a track map of Daytona using only the accelerometer data yields an expectedly strange track map due to banking. When either the Sebring or Daytona data sets are pulled up I get a red flashing message saying the special channels are not configured. Also the channel list seems very abbreviated. Is this intentional due to some NDA or am I just doing something silly? Or did this car not have GPS?
Determining the track from speed and lateral acceleration using the fastest non driven wheel (in this case vwheel_fr as it is an anti clockwise circuit) and accy for lateral acceleration generates a relatively close track map (attached). The car probably did have a GPS, however the channels in this log file are exclusively from an onboard C60 logger, plus some Windarab default maths channels.
In Bosch systems, you get colour codes for data sources, as shown in the channel window in the right hand pane:
- Red - measured channels
- Blue - maths / conditional channels
- Green - virtual channels (not present in the daytona log)
- Yellow - Internal Windarab generated files
The channel list channels are very standard Bosch Motorsport names.
n at the start of a channel name is angular speed
p is pressure
t is temp
v is velocity
b_ is a button input
a is angle (so aps is pedal and ath is throttle pos)
