Discussion and questions related to the course Practical Motorsport Wiring - Professional Level
Hey folks,
Does anybody know of any off-the-shelf capacitive fluid level sensors? I've been hunting for sensors to monitor oil levels of various components [sump, catch can, dry sump oil tank, etcetera] but have not been able to locate any that aren't custom. Gill has several appropriate product lines, but I've not been able to find any availability beyond directly contacting Gill to create custom sensors. I also found Reventec which looked quite promising at first... right up until I saw that they too live in the world of custom sensors.
Perhaps custom sensor length in low quantities isn't as big of a deal with level sensors - I'll certainly contact them to find out. But in the mean time I'm wondering if there are any solutions that people can think of?
Most luxury OEMs use capacitive level sensors these days. I'm sure I could retrofit an OEM sensor and calibrate for it. But it'd be nice to pick a dedicated aftermarket sensor from a trusted brand if given the option. Anybody have any thoughts? Thanks!
For the oil tank you can use one of the ones you cut to length yourself. They are commonly used as fuel level sensors. Probably too bulky for the other locations though.
