Discussion and questions related to the course Practical Motorsport Wiring - Professional Level
I am in the final design phases of a full loom construction/integration with a PDM, & I cannot find any concrete data on what the DBW motor will draw. I ask as I'm using a Deutsch Autosport 10-35 connector with 22ga contacts rated @ 5a each. Ideally I'd like to use only one pin per HBO, however spicing 22x2 to 20x1 is always an option.
Can anyone tell me what a stock LS3 DBW motor will draw? While I'm asking, same question for a Bosch Motorsport 74mm?
Cheers,
Brian
If you can make it work in your loom design you should use 20 awg for the motor wires.
In a static state, the current isn't huge but they draw reasonably large spikes of current for short bursts during transient operatation.
5-10A is probably a reasonable number to work off but it can spike higher than that.
Thanks for the info. I've heard 4A but that, to address your comment about transient operation seems low. I can't use 20ga in the loom design until close to the unit itself. The connector shell I'm using only has 22ga contacts, so I'll double up on them.
I did see on the Bosch Motorsports specs sheet that they will draw
How far from the ECU will the DBW be? That will be a factor in the gauge of wire used.
I'd say 125cm with the Autosport connector 50cm in
