Hey guys, im going to try to start tuning my rb25det with my haltech platinum pro. i just got a question about the transition range (high load) and the low/ medium boost range. Lets say im targeting 11.5:1 at WOT in high boost, whats a good afr to target in low/medium boost area? Also, if targeting 14.7:1 at cruise, whats a good transition afr for the high load area? Thanks in advance everyone.

I would generally target around 13.5-14.0 through the transition area as you move into positive boost (0 kPa gauge). The correct AFR as you increase boost will depend on the actual boost pressure and the engine to some degree. What I normally do if i'm running 2 or more boost set points is to start at the lowest boost I can get to (wastegate boost pressure) and tune from here. As an example if this was perhaps 10 psi I might start with an AFR of 11.8-12.2 and see how the engine responds. As you increase boost beyond this you'll typically end up moving richer. In some cases where your low boost setting is very low (maybe in the region of 5-6 psi), you might choose to be a little leaner here.

Remember that really what you're trying to do is use excess fuel for thermal management. The more power you're producing, the more combustion heat you'll need to manage and hence the richer you will want to move the AFR.

Thanks for responding Andre. I actually caught a video on here that you explained this pretty well. Im just about to start hitting the road to get a decent road map on the car before I hit the dyno so I have a feel for the haltech platinum sport software. Do you have any experience with this program and its knock software? I wanna tune on the road using the knock technique. I turned on the knock light so I can see when it knocks on the main screen (its a swap so the check engine light doesnt work on the cluster so I cant program that to flash). What would you do to trigger the knock "safety," on the road so I know that the knock sensors are actually working and picking up knock? Thanks in advance!

We had a platinum pro fitted to our Z before we upgraded to the Elite. The knock control in the Platinum series is really better described as noise control in my opinion and as such it's not nearly as good as what the Elite has. I'd definitely use proper audio knock detection in order to confirm your ECU is able to correctly distinguish knock from engine noise.
