Hello,
I have a Knock Box and I’ve used it, successfully, to tune my track day car. Following advice from this forum in the past, I’ve wound the car up to induce light knock to confirm I can hear it (thanks Andre / Chris)... then I’ve tuned the ignition map conservatively - struggling with the power on the road, so I’ve not actually heard knock on the ramp runs, but got to a point where - from information about other similar cars - the ignition numbers are “high enough”... I need to push this a bit further, some day.
My question is, as I’m still a bit paranoid about knock, am I using the Knock Box to it’s best ability. There’s a knob on the box - I’ve no idea what it does or what to set it to - I typically turn it 75% of the way around, and leave it there - to me it feels like it just turns up the volume! Is this a filter or a gain knob? Or is it just a volume control?! Are gain and volume the same thing?
Many thanks!
Christian
Hi Christian, you're 100% right - That knob on the knock box adjusts the volume to the head set. It's just a case of adjusting the volume so that you can hear clearly without it being overbearing. Often I find I can distinguish knock more clearly with the volume set quite low. It will of course depend on the particular vehicle and the amount of ambient noise.
Thanks Andre, appreciated! I also find it more comfortable on lower settings but wanted to make sure I wasn’t “filtering” anything out.
cheers,
Christian
