Just finished the AFR course and was interested to find out whether an air-cooled engine would generally require a richer AFR?
Specifically looking towards something along the line of a Harley-Davidson which is primarily cooled through fins on the cylinders and heads, with some also using oil cooling. (Some models use a traditional water cooling system, but the question is more aimed at the oil/air models).
Thanks in advance.
We have run the same target AFR on Harley & Porsche air-cooled engines. I have used both oil temp and cylinder head temp for the major "engine temp" channel. Using cylinder head temp is more responsive and does allow you to more quickly add more fuel if it begins to get hot.
