Introduction

03.14

00:00 In this worked example we're going to be applying the HPA six step reflashing process to this 2020 Dodge Challenger RT Shaker.
00:09 The Dodge is fitted with a 5.7 litre Hemi engine, which also uses variable cam control.
00:17 There are some complexities around the tuning of these late model Dodge engines due to what Dodge refer to as their artificial neural network.
00:25 And we'll go into a bit more detail about this ANN once we actually get into the tuning.
00:31 But suffice to say it has been challenging for tuners in the Dodge world to get their head around and also to make suitable changes to.
00:40 Fortunately, as we'll find, HP Tuners has actually come out with their artificial neural network training tool and this makes the process much much easier for us as the tuner and again of course we'll see what's involved with that as we get further into this worked example.
00:58 Another complexity, just like most late model engine controllers is that the Dodge engine control module works on the torque based tuning system.
01:07 So, again we'll go over what that entails and look at the process of actually making modifications to this torque based system, as well as the torque requests.
01:17 Now, with the vehicle itself it is essentially 100% stock standard.
01:22 And we have found already in some prior testing before recording this worked example though that there's a few areas that definitely need some work.
01:30 This is going to mean that you'll see the process of making changes to the likes of the artificial neural network as well as the torque requests and of course you can apply the same technique and process to your own vehicle irrespective of how lightly or heavily modified that happens to be.
01:48 One consideration of course with a vehicle like this that's essentially completely stock standard is what are we likely to be able to gain in terms of power and torque from just a tune alone? And the answer to this is, of course, it depends.
02:02 In a lot of applications the same engine will be used across multiple variants of the vehicle and often the variants are at different price points and some of the differentiation comes into the fact that the more expensive models are more powerful.
02:17 And often this is simply achieved with a tune only.
02:21 Meaning that if you've bought the base model, there's often quite a lot of headroom in the tune and you can gain quite substantial amounts of power just with a tune alone.
02:30 In this case we've found that the Dodge calibration is actually relatively close to the mark, so we're not expecting massive gains.
02:37 However, there are some gains to be made here.
02:41 And again depending on the modifications to your vehicle, you may be able to achieve larger gains in power than what we'll see on this stock standard vehicle.
02:50 The actual tuning process however, is much more important than the specific amount of power that we gain and again this process will be applicable to your vehicle regardless whether it's completely stock standard or you've gone down the path of adding a lot of modifications.
03:06 Now, that we know what we're dealing with with this particular worked example, let's get into the first step.

We usually reply within 12hrs (often sooner)
