Hi HPA,
I was just wondering what reflash tools people are using to reflash Australian domestic market diesels? E.g. Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, Mazda BT-50, Mitsubishi Triton and Isuzu D-Max??
Hi Samsone,
There is a few of different options available to tune these vehicles.
For example, I us HP Tuners for the Ford Ranger and ECUTek for the Mitsubishi Triton.
there are a few questions you will need to ask yourself before committing to a software. Are you wanting 1 software to do all of these or looking to concentrate on 1 particular make/model? Do you want to be able to have access to a well defined map with maximum amount of tables available, or do you want to be able to do basic reflashing with simple but good gains? There is also software where a map is supplied and you just upload (I don't like this option as to do the job properly, I prefer to tune each engine individually. You will find to get 100% from each engine, that no 2 are the same. What works well on one motor might damage another)
Hi Chris,
Thanks for getting back to me.
As a noob at this tuning game, what I am wondering is why do you choose HP Tuners for the Ford Ranger and ECUTek on the Triton?
What added functionality do you get on the Ranger using the HP Tuners that you wouldn't get using say ECUTek or EFILive for instance?
Are the individual reflashing tools better suited to individual vehicles? (e.g. do certain softwares give you access to more tables than others on certain vehicles?)
Also, can any software talk to any ECU? For example if I was tuning using HP Tuners on 2015 Ranger could I then in a few months go and plug that into 2020 BT-50 and get the same tables and maps available (assuming I have purchased the credits for the new vehicle)
Cheers
To be honest the reason I use Hp Tuners is because I already have the cable and software and they now do the Ranger, I also believe ECUtek and EFIlive do not do the ranger. ECUtek I use as the cable I have is licenced to do Mitsubishi Diesels, also HP Tuners and EFIlive do not do the Mitsubishi Triton.
Both HP Tuners and ECUtek have well defined maps for these vehicles and allow a large amount of tables to adjust so you have full control
Yes certain flashing tools and software will give you certain functions and features. It comes down to how well defined the files are and what the developers have manged to access from the factory ROM. You can find one software might have 50 tables and another might have 200 from the same vehicle.
No not any software can talk to any vehicle. You will find most software will be able to scan most cars due to OBD2 being a standard protocol although not able to read every ecu ROM file. Software will have a supported vehicle list which will show you what cars they can talk to (and usually updated to more vehicles as time goes on and they develop more).
I have attached an article below and also the course on reflashing, which I think you will find really helpful in understanding the process.

Thanks again Chris, good read.
Hello Chris
I was browsing through ECUTek products and apparently, they don't allow you to tune a Mitsubishi L200 Triton Diesel. They do allow for you to reflash with their custom made maps.
As far as the description of their products go, they mention only that the software allows tunning of some specific vehicles.
Do you know of any product that actually allows for tuning of the Mitsubishi CRD Diesels?
