Hello,

Where can i find this software?

The COBB end user tuning software is no longer available due to EPA concern that end users may not have the proper equipment and knowledge to develop USA compliant calibrations. Professional tuners were allowed to retain access.

DIY user alternatives include open source and standalones.

Hi, which options can be used to read the Cobb .ptm files?

Nathan,

The COBB end user tuning software (which would open a COBB .ptm file if it's unlocked), is no longer available due to EPA concern that end users may not have the proper equipment and knowledge to develop USA compliant calibrations. That decision impacted end used software in all markets.

That's understandable, but how would we create/modify maps now without it? (Using that format .ptm?). That is a bit sad that we're learning but cannot do some tests and modify them ourselves. I have the option to send it to a tuner but defeats the purpose of what I wanted to learn and inspect the file :/

What would be those open-source software names?

COBB files are proprietary to their software, so there isn't another option to open them.

There are open source options for the stock ECU, and standalone ECU options to tune Subarus if you're looking to tune the vehicle yourself.

For open source it's discussed a bit here:

And the tuning process is shown within the ECUFlash worked example in the Practical Reflash course:

I have this same issue. My motor was built and tuned prior to greenspeed, so now I have no way to access my tune for the curiosity of learning. It seems the only solution is to start from scratch with open source. Now that COBB offers CARB approved fuel systems, I will likely just rebuild CARB compliant soon. I just wish there was a way to transfer my current tune into ECUFlach or another open source option.

Jake,

If the goal is to tune your own car, I wouldn't suggest trying to copy someone else's tune anyway. That defeats the purpose of learning which is what this is all about, and since you have a built engine, anything off the shelf wouldn't suit your application anyway.

If you use COBB's compliant fuel system that I helped put together, the load comp tables can be zeroed out which massively simplifies tuning, and you use Injector Dynamic's publicly available injector data, making that part quite simple as well. You just need to remember to rescale all IPW based tables since you're changing injector flow from stock, for example tip in enrichment, cranking fuel.

HPA's practical reflash course, worked example, and other lessons have all the foundation needed, and if you get stuck on something specific, please make a forum post so a member can lend a hand.

Since you're tuning a stock ECU, remember you are never starting from scratch. You have a complete functioning stock tune to start from, and you'll only need to focus on a small portion of the total tables which are related to the component changes you've made, then any tuning changes you elect to make.

You can do it!

Good points! That was the motivation I needed to buy more parts! Haha. Thanks for the perspective and information as always!

You're welcome. Happy purchasing. :)
