Hi, on my 2010 silverado 1500 with a 5.3, 87 octane, totally stock . I have followed exact steps to help numb some of the knock detection systems but seem to have a serious knock issue under 3000 rpm in the 50-60 grams range. The knock system is pulling a up to 8/9 degrees. Using the histograms to pull timing, this has not seemed to help almost having 12 degrees in those areas which is super lower for ramping up power. What else can I be looking it to fix Knock Retard, its robbing power.
It's possible that your knock detection system is a little over sensitive and it may be picking up phantom knock in these areas. This is where it's nice to have audio knock detection equipment to be able to just double check and confirm if the system is picking up real knock or if it's fake. In 99% of applications I find that the knock detection is really accurate and reliable but I've had a handful of engines over the years that for no apparent reason (or occasionally to do with modifications) which the system was overly sensitive on.
