on the lesson of optimising the tune ,ignition timing was adjusted on the HP curve on the dyno graph eliminating knock aswell, since MTBT shows the maximum torque obtained on a certain load when adjusting timing , can we adjust the ignition timing on the torque readings we get and eliminate knock when reflashing a ecu, thank you
Hey Christopher,
With tuning ignition timing while reflashing an ecu it can be a little different.
The principles are still the same, we are trying to reach MBT or as close as without knock.
Issue we generally face is that in most cases we can't add ignition timing live and watch how the torque reacts, this can make things a little tricky.
For full power its fairly easy, do a power run, stop and add timing, reflash into ecu, do another run and see how it reacts and if it knocks, add more timing or remove etc etc.
For the mid range part throttle its a little harder, some ecus you can live tune and check this, however to be honest the manufacturer has spent a lot of time and money with development of their engines and tuning packages and they have the mid range stuff pretty well perfect so very rarely need altering.
